Prof. Vassil Kirov

Prof. Dr. Vassil Kirov (Ph.D. from Sciences Po) is Full Professor of Future of work and Deputy Director of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Bulgaria, and Visiting Professor at Sciences Po, in France. He is President of the General Assembly of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Since 2025 he is Member of Academia Europaea. He is also an Associate Researcher at the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) in Brussels, Belgium. His research interests are in the sociology of work and organisations, employment relations and digitalisation. Vassil has been a researcher in large EU-funded research projects (the last three are: H2020 BEYOND4.0, Horizon Europe SkilMeet and ProSkills2Work) and has worked as an external expert for the European Commission, the ILO, EUROFOUND and the Bulgarian government. He was a member of the European Commission High-Level Expert Group on the Impact of the Digital Transformation on EU Labour Markets (2018 – 2019). He has published books and articles in leading international scientific journals. Among his last publications is the co-edited book “Policy Implications of Virtual Work”, published by Palgrave in 2017 and the book “The digital transformation and the future of work. Global trends. Local consequence”, published in 2022. Vassil has been invited as an expert evaluator by several funding bodies, including the European Commission REA, the Belgian Federal Science Office, ANR France and the Polish Science Office NCN. He has been a member of editorial boards and has been invited to review for more than twenty different journals Vassil Kirov was a visitor at the Luxembourg Institute for Socio-Economic Research (LISER), the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, Paris and the University Paris Saclay.
